2007/ 2008 Season in the PREMIER |
|
We started off quiet well with more or less the same squad from last season and 3 new good signings and we went on and won our first two games Gaunt 1-0 and Long Whatton 3-2 but our next two games were a bit of a disaster losing 3-1 to Wymeswold and 3-2 to Hathern after this game there was quite a bit of a discontent between players manager and the committee which seemed to set presidence for the rest of the season with 3 or 4 of the officials and the committee thinking Of calling it a day at the end of the season. We did soldier on and only lost one game in the next seven which took us to the end of November then it seemed that our usual dilemma set in again having the seven or eight loyal players and manager waiting to see if any of the other 10 players who had signed on was going to bother turning up this went on until the end of the season but we did manage to field a team every week with 11 if not more players but from the beginning of December out of the remaining 11 games we only won 4 and lost 7 but we still managed to end third in the Premier Division the same as last season which overall was just about what we deserved . We were disappointed in our cup competitions being knocked out by Wymeswold in the League Premier Cup and the Everards Cup , In the County Premier Cup we manage to beat Babbington Horse 6-2 in the first round but went down 3-2 to Advance Couriers in the third round. We were invited to play in the Loughborough Charity Cup which it is usually for Saturday teams our first game was against Hathern Three Crowns who played in Division One of the Leicestershire Senior League the game was a draw at full-time but we won 5-4 on penalties this gave us a semi-final with Loughborough Dynamos who play in the Midland Alliance League and ended second. We played them at the wrong time because they had not played for two or three-weeks through bad-weather which meant their manager fielded their strongest 11 we kept them at bay for the first 10 minutes but in the end they went on to win 10-1 but these two games were for charity and we raised over £500 in the two games. We have also sorted out our problems now and are looking forward to the forthcoming season HONOURS Paul GUNN-----------Ross LOCKER----------Adam LOCKER--------Ross LOCKER
