This our 9th season as gone by that quick maybe because we was involved in having a chance to winning the league and also reaching the semi-final of the inter league cup which meant we were involved to the very last game of the season. Our league campaign got off to a good start winning Ravenstone 2-0 Greenhill 1-0 Sileby Victoria 3-2 and drawing 2-2 Castle Donington, our two defeats Thringstone 3-1 and Mountsorrel 4-3 both games we should have at least got a point from them this left us 4 in the league at the beginning of November From then on we had a winning league run of 7 victories before Greenhill beaters 5-1 this left us top of the league at the beginning of February, With Kegworth and East Leake withdrawing from the league it meant we only had four league games left and if we won them all we would be champions. The first of the 4 was a away to Sileby Victoria we came away with all three points with a good 3-2 win the next game was the most important game of the season at home to Ravenstone at the time who ever won this game would probably go on and win the league and so it was Ravenstone went away with all three points with 1-0 win we should have at least got a point with the amount of chances we had but could not find the net, It was all down to our last two games now if we won them we could still get the runners-up spot, the last but one game was away to bottom of the table Wymeswold and we were lucky to come away with a 2-2 draw. It was all down now to our last game away to Loughborough FC this game had been rearranged 2 or 3 times throughout the season but eventually it was going to be played on 7th May a week after the league should have finished this meant that a few of our players had made other arrangements like playing cricket and going on holiday etc we managed to field a understrength side they played well but we came away 3-1 losers with all chances of the runner-up spot disappearing we know for a fact that Loughborough played at least one unregistered player and he actually scored we decided that we would not report them to the league if they wanted to win that badly look to them.So in the end we ended fourth in the league How County Cup campaign only laste 2 games our first game was a walkover as the opponent could not get a team so we went in to our second game against Hathern who play in division I of the Leicestershire Senior League we lost 3-1 but should have come away with a win we were for the better team but again could not convert the chances The Cobbln Trophy campaign also ended in disappointing we won 7-0 in our first game against division one opponents Anstey Crown in the second game we won Sutton Bonington Academicals 4-1.In the quarter-finals we were drawn away to Greenhill we were winning 3-2 but with the last kick of the 90 min we conceded an own goal to take the game into extra time we never recovered and Greenhill went to win 6-3 in extra time vary very disappointed This year the Leicester and District League and the North Leicestershire league decided to have an inter-cup competitions 4 teams from each division would play in a round robin the 2 teams with the most points in each league group would play in a semi-final and the winner will go on to play the winner of the opposite league in the final The 4 teams from the District League were Huncote we won 3-0 Cosby we lost 3-1 Magne 73 we won 1-0 County Hall we won 4-1 these results were good enough to takers into the semi-final against Mountsorrel this was a tight close game but in the end Mountsorrel won 2-1 win they went on to play Cosby Utd in the final but they went down 3-2 this was a good experience to show the different strengths of both leagues whether the league's will carry on with this competition in the future is not know there is even talk about amalgamating the two leagues we will have to wait and see Summing up it was a nearly nearly season nearly winning the league and nearly getting through to the final of the inter league cup all in all we are quite sad that we did not winning anything but are happy that the players stuck together right to the end. |
